Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides service to patients in designated care settings, including acute, short and long-term care, by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments. Obtains a thorough medical history from patients and performs examinations and assessments to determine patients' needs. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to analyze and interpret information collected from patients, medical records, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information, to develop appropriate diagnoses. Acknowledges the importance of care coordination by rounding on patients when necessary. Works collaboratively with providers and independently to provide care. Formulates treatment plans and prescribes medications as legally authorized. Maintains complete and detailed records of patients' health care plans and prognoses. Consults with or refers patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice. Provides patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability. Counsels patients and family members about self-management on prevention and treatment plans. May cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with patient procedures as needed. Conducts research into areas of specialty and uses findings to improve patient care and clinical outcomes. Incorporates evidence-based practice guidelines into care. Maintains current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices, including reimbursement of services.
Qualifications
Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred. Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will be considered. Experience as an APP preferred; new grads will be reviewed. Schedule - M-F, may have some hospital call, depending on start date. Required FTE - 1.0 may consider a .9. Demonstrated current competence and provision of care or completion of a master’s/post-master’s degree program in the past twelve months. Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances. Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC). Obtains and maintains required department-specific competencies and certifications.
